Privacy Policy — DNP3 Simulator

Last updated: 23 June 2026

DNP3 Simulator ("the app") is a free engineering tool for testing DNP3 communications. It can act as a DNP3 master or as a DNP3 outstation (RTU) simulator, and includes a serial line monitor. This policy explains how the app handles information.

Data we collect

None. The app does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. There are no user accounts, no analytics or tracking, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs that gather information about you.

Data the app processes on your device

All work happens locally on your device. Configuration you create — such as connection profiles, point lists, and console logs — is stored only in the app's private storage on your device. It is never sent to us or to any third party. You can export a point list or a console log to a file yourself, but only you choose where that file goes (e.g. via the system share sheet).

Network and device connections

When you start a session, the app communicates over the network (TCP/IP) or a connected USB/serial adapter with the DNP3 device or endpoint you specify. These connections are made at your request, go only to the address you enter, and are used solely to exchange DNP3 protocol messages. The app initiates no other network communication.

Permissions and why they are used

Children

The app is a technical/industrial tool and is not directed to children.

Third-party components

The app embeds the open-source Step Function I/O DNP3 library to implement the protocol. The library runs locally and does not send data anywhere on its own.
